2C NEWS - July 2018

July marks the commencement of a new civil infrastructure project in the Southbank Boulevard precinct and the completion of another project in Geelong.

Malop Street is one of Central Geelong's oldest streets and the main thoroughfare to the city center and as such, the recently completed ‘Revitalising Central Geelong Action Plan,’ is now a vibrant public space, a place to shop and enjoy.

A 12-month program of works by 2Construct included the demolition of existing road and street infrastructure and the construction of new pedestrian and vehicle pavements.  Other upgrades include new street furniture and public lighting, with the project having a particular focus on the landscaping component, more than 8000 plants and 50 trees have been planted along Malop Street, between Moorabool and Yarra Streets.

Malop Street is open to traffic and invites the community, local traders and visitors alike to discover and enjoy the Green Spine in Geelong.

2Construct is due to commence construction for City of Melbournes' 2.5 hectares of new public open space on Southbank Boulevard and Dodd Street. The project will be completed in stages and is expected to take 18 months to complete.

Commencing on the 16th of this month, Southbank Boulevard will be closed to all traffic between St Kilda Road and Sturt Street. Trams will continue to operate and the precinct will remain open to pedestrians.

Initial works will include the removal of 39 trees to enable construction and allow for the new carriageway, tramline and tram stop. As part of stage 1 works, over 65 new trees will be planted along with approximately 300 new trees across the project.
Preparation for Civil, Road, and Tram infrastructure works start mid-July with the completion of this stage which includes demolition of the existing tram infrastructure, construction and recommissioning of a new tram line and tram stop on Sturt Street, set for the end of September 2018.

This is a fantastic project and we are proud to be involved in the transformation of the Southbank Boulevard and Dodds Street precinct.
