Little Malop Street Streetscape Upgrade aka Geelong Laneways Precinct

Works undertaken by 2Construct included the upgrade of existing Little Malop Street in Geelong, including the adjoining lane ways. Works included the demolition of existing road pavements and the upgrade of existing drainage infrastructure and reticulation of the water supply. Construction of new roads and pedestrian paving. Also in the scope was the upgrade of existing street lighting and installation of new street furniture and architectural canopy structures.

Little Malop Street was a unique project, undertaken in one of the most densely populated trade districts in central Geelongs’ CBD. The single entry and exit point presented a logistical challenge. 2Construct introduced a traffic management plan that maximised a continuous traffic route through the precinct to minimise the impact on trade, while still maintaining the program and productivity. Low height barriers provided segregation from the work site while ensuring visibility to the front of businesses. Pedestrian and trade access was kept from one end of the precinct to the other, while trucks and equipment continued works.

The project was awarded the 2018 Landscape Architecture Urban Design Award by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects.
