The Bridge Mall Redevelopment won two awards!

2Construct is delighted to announce the Bridge Mall Redevelopment project has won the Award of Excellence for Civic Landscape and the Regional Achievement Award at the 2025 AILA VIC Landscape Architecture Awards!

2Construct worked with City of Ballarat, Hassell and Accuraco to revitalise Bridge Mall into a safe, flexible, and green public space, rejuvenating Ballarat’s central retail precinct.

Bridge Mall revitalises Ballarat’s historic retail precinct into a vibrant people-focused meeting place grounded in rich ecologies of history, culture and Country. The project was conceived conceptually and urbanistically — through a rigorous and collaborative design process that brought together community and stakeholders with a shared vision. The ‘streets for people’ approach enables shared use of space and a linear landscape programmed with new opportunities for occupation, gathering, events and play. The result is a high quality, skilful and contextually responsive sequence of civic spaces and experiences that have delivered on the potential for transformational change. Bridge Mall elevates Ballarat’s urban experience and shows landscape architecture’s ability to catalyse social and economic benefits in regional precincts.

The Bridge Mall Redevelopment demonstrates how good design can be a catalyst for regional renewal. The project transforms a misaligned and neglected mall into a new civic precinct. The design facilitates a range of activities, multiple cultural narratives, and invites commercial occupation to enliven the space. The project also mitigates urban heat and increases biodiversity. Additionally, the design reimagines the precinct as an engine for social, environmental and economic renewal. The Bridge Mall Redevelopment contributes to the flourishing health and wellbeing of Ballarat and its surrounding areas.

At the completion of construction in late 2025, the response from the community was immediate and extremely positive – since opening this project has become a beacon for pride within the community and an important symbol of the transformation that is taking place in Ballarat.
