Tradies National Health Month 2026

With tradies making up over 35% of the workforce and the Construction industry, it is important to raise awareness and improve safety where possible.

Over the month of August, 2Construct brought together our site teams, clients and subcontractors at University Square, RACV Inverloch and Sunshine College to support Tradies National Health Month for our fifth consecutive year and raise awareness on the well-being of those in trade occupations.

At University Square, we were joined by Josh Jones, founder of the Just Be Nice Project, to talk to the site team. His message was simple but powerful: check in on your mates, follow up, and never underestimate the impact of showing up for someone when they need it most.

At Sunshine College, we were fortunate to have R U OK? Day Ambassador Troy Henson speak with the site team. Troy shared how his challenging childhood and experiences with trauma and depression shaped his commitment to mental health advocacy. With counselling and the support of his partner, Sharon, he learnt to better understand his emotions and now delivers workplace training on psychosocial health, bullying, harassment and mental health. Troy encourages regular R U OK? conversations at work, reminding us to notice small changes in others and take the time to ask, “Are you OK?”

This campaign, run annually by the APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association), aims to raise awareness about the health and injury risks faced by those who work in trade occupations. As tradies make up a significant portion of the Australian workforce, it is crucial to prioritise their health and well-being.

Tradies commonly present to physiotherapists with low back pain and neck and shoulder pain. Repetitive bending and heavy lifting in cases where a wheelbarrow or the like should be used, are often the culprit of many of the injuries. Seeking regular preventive health checks can reduce common musculoskeletal conditions, including muscle/tendon injuries and back pain.

Beyond the physical aspect, mental health is equally essential. Depression affects around one million Australians each year, while over two million experience anxiety. These conditions can have a profound impact on daily life, and seeking professional help is crucial for early intervention and support. If you or anyone you know might be experiencing depression or anxiety, it is essential to take the steps needed to improve mental well-being.
